Romans 8:28 works well describing what God means by “ the good pleasure of His will” (or according to the kind intention of His will, NASB) as being the same, as I see it, as “ called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.) because Romans 8:28-30 explains what predestination means, that we are predestined to be conformed (not saved) to His image after we are saved.

So the meaning of Ephesians 1:5 needs to be understood and that’s done by looking at more than Ephesians 1:5.Įphesians 1:5 (KJV) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.Įphesians 1:5 (NASB) He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, This is what I, Robert Norman, believe (in opposition to Rick Meyers’ and many) that the Bible does not teach we are predestinated to be saved.
